Witchcraft In My Back-Yard….!!!

Five years ago I got this house-help, let’s call her Ana. She was such a beautiful sweet faithful girl. I always felt safe and blessed with her around that I adopted her as a daughter in the house. She was mature, maybe because she was the first-born child in her family and she was the first to give her life to Christ. She soon trained in massage therapy and used she used me as a guinea pig. But while she massaged me, we talked a lot and intimately and we prayed together.

She grew in her faith through prayer, bible study and church attendance. She learnt about the two kingdoms and how to do spiritual warfare. It was through this that she realized how much havoc witchcraft had caused in her family.

Her family stories were often so sorrowful that I often felt like I was in a horror movie just by listening to her. This is Ana’s story summary: At the age of 8, her, her mother, two sisters and brother, bid their father farewell. He said he was leaving to go and check on his people. The following day, their mother bundled up the four kids and joined a certain man and they bore three children – bringing all seven children under one roof. The stepfather treated them really badly. He first got rid of her brother because, according to him, this boy would bring him problems when he became a man. He said, quite often and openly that he couldn’t live with in the same house with another man’s son. When this boy died at one year of age, no one in the family or in the village doubted that he was a victim of the step father’s witchcraft.

……The thief does not come
except to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy…….
(Jn 10:10a)

The stepfather never wanted to see his step children succeed in anything that they did, especially when it came to education.

Every single time exams were around the corner, problems would arise. One of the things he did to deter Ana was to send her to live with a man who he said would pay for her education. Of course, it did not take long for Ana to get pregnant and drop out of school. By the time she came to live with me, her baby girl was about three years and Ana had left her with her stepfather and her mother. This baby girl always looked traumatized to me.

The stepfather also sent the child who followed Ana to go work as a maid and she was sexually abused by her boss, resulting in the birth of a boy that was taken away from her at a tender age.

About seven months ago, Ana’s stepfather died. Before he died however, he confided in his own firstborn daughter that he had tried everything possible to bewitch the three step daughters but nothing was working because of their intense prayers. Everything had started to backfire on him and he knew that he would die soon.

Wow!
Witchcraft stories
in my backyard!

Two weeks ago, on Friday the 10th of May, 2019 – twenty two years after Ana’s biological father’s disappearance and just a month after Ana’s 28th birthday – Ana’s father was found as result of an intense search, spearheaded by Ana, with the help of the Holy Spirit. She has so far spoken to him on phone!

When she told me, I tearfully remembered how she always said ‘I believe my dad is alive! He is somewhere and we shall find him one day! When I get money I will go look for my dad! Sometimes when I am walking and an older man passes by, I imagine that he could be the one…’

She told me that her dad was in Gulu but they would meet this Sunday on the 26th May, 2019. I can’t wait for the report!

I am a little apprehensive about how the meeting will go because, according to Ana, he was not very excited about the phone call. He did not want to hear about her mother after learning that there were other children involved. Certainly, with witchcraft and all that, the man must be traumatized. Apparently he never married and he has no other children. Can you imagine!?

Ana’s stories made me realize that our biggest enemy is not the devil but ignorance and powerlessness. Witchcraft is real in our fallen world. Lucifer is the prince of this world. Though he is now defeated and condemned, his power is in lies, manipulation, intimidation and accusations. We have been given weapons and Holy Spirit power that never fails. We must be aware of this and the fact that we fight from a point of victory. Ana’s prayerful family has won this war but the battle continues….

…….You are of God, little children
 and have overcome them,
because He who is in you
is greater than he
who is in the world…..
(1 John 4:4)
