…Living the blessed life…!
Last Sunday when I woke up, I was led to read Psalm 1. At first I resisted, thinking ‘surely I know this Psalm, I can even recite it. Why should I read it again?’ When the still small voice persisted, I reluctantly reached for my phone and started reading it for the n’s time but I could hardly go beyond the first word of the Psalm …Blessed…! I started meditating on what it really meant? I was then reminded about the passage I had read the previous week in Luke 24:30 and Luke 24: 44-45
….Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight….
…Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures….
Oh the riches of God’s word! Hallelujah!
I specifically prayed that the Holy Spirit may open my eyes and my understanding so that I could ‘see’ Him and understand this scripture beyond the words therein. He graciously did! He illuminated my soul with more revelation.
I started seeing how blessed my life was, despite not having so much in terms of material wealth, position, prestige, power etc but simply because of the quality of life that Christ is establishing me in. It may not be perfect but it is surely full of joy, peace and righteousness. Is not this what the Kingdom of God is all about?!
Being blessed is being authentically successful. It is having ‘good success’ spoken of in Joshua 1. Blessedness is about having the Kingdom of God in and around us. It comes with balance between contentment, simplicity and abundance in all areas of life.
As children of God, we are like oak trees, firmly established and immovable. We are established near inexhaustible resources – Christ Himself, the source of living waters! He is our good shepherd and so we shall lack nothing. We are like houses established on solid rock! Rains may come down, floods may come up, drought may show up, and we might swing to the right or to the left, but we won’t be uprooted from our foundations! Praise Jesus! Whatever we set ourselves to do shall prosper because it will have God’s signet ring upon it.
How do we get to live blessed lives? Psalms 1 tells us how to! It is obtained by watching where we walk, stand and sit and by prioritizing reading God’s word and delighting in and applying the principles of His Kingdom. John Maxwell asserts that the first step to blessedness is to live life intentionally!
Let us live the blessed life the Lord has freely given us and rejoice always!
Hallelujah, glory to God!
